My press is cast iron, built in Cleveland, Ohio sometime in the 1890's. I take irrational pride in knowing that if the lights went out and the building crumbled down around me, in all likelihood my press would stay intact, and I'd still be able to pedal and print.

For me, letterpress printing is about slowing life down and taking the time to create simple, tactile beauty with a care that can be felt. It's a craft made viable again by relief plates created from digital files. I use polymer plates, metal type, and wood type.

The studio sits below my apartment and I print at home. It recently occurred to me that I accidentally created my greenest lifestyle ever -- no commute -- and except to power the computer in my apartment upstairs, no electricity required.
